Historical Significance

The Chester Pruitt Recreational Center

run by Gregg Chapel has been the

center point for African American affairs

since its creation. More importantly, it is

the first municipal building in Fort

Walton Beach to be named in honor of

an African American. Chester Pruitt was

the first black policeman for the City of

Fort Walton Beach.

With these historical facts and the

efforts that so many gave to have this

building erected more than 30 years

ago, we felt an obligation to give the

community our plan.
